Descriptive Essay About Backyard Barbecues - 1063 Words
It was the sort of day where you would find kids outside in a pool. The excited shrieks of children playing. Lemonade being made and swimsuits being thrown on. It was the sort of day where kids would have their friends over playing with water guns. Clothes would get wet. The lawn would have small puddles filled with muddy water from the games being played. It was the sort of day for backyard barbecues where the smell of hotdogs and hamburgers would draw in those from all around the neighborhood. But, for those who lived beyond the swimming pools, beyond the muddy puddles, beyond the backyard barbecues, beyond even Mcdonalds and the grocery stores, today was not the perfect day. His arms ached from being held up moving back and forth. His stomach growled from pangs of hunger that afflicted the many orphans. His legs were ready to give out from standing all day long. His mind wandered in thought, thinking of all the things that he was missing out on. He thought of all the things that other kids would be doing, the swimming pools, water guns, and barbecues that he was not able to do because he had to work on making buttons. A tall woman came into the room her high heels clicked as she moved. The children froze, each one stopping what they were doing and stared. Miss Mitchum, the headmistress, never came into the work area unless something was very important. She looked around and pointed at David. David just looked at her, standing the way all orphans were taught. Frozen, back straight hands by his sides, mouth closed. She walked over. Click, click, click. Her arm reached out and grabbed David. David gave no resistance, all he had been taught to do was stand there and take the whatever she would dish out to him. Miss Mitchims stood to address all of the orphans and smiled. The moment she had been waiting for had come. Today was promotion day to the machine that all the orphans hated the most.
